While Jasper was driving us to San Benito County Fairgrounds to the annual Bolado Park rodeo, I decided to use my laptop to review a new game called, Tales from the Dragon Mountain: The Strix by Cateia Games.
I'm a great lover of dragons, fantasy, and the like, so I was intrigued by the name. You find yourself playing the main character, Mina Lockheart, who is having nightmares about her grandmother. Like any good granddaughter, she goes off to investigate, only grandma isn't home! In fact, something very fishy, and ever so magical is going on.
I thought the plot was clever, but in some ways quite similar to stories we've already come across. The graphics were very nice, but they don't rate stunning in my book, than again I am picky. The hidden object areas were extremely easy, but the translation of the actual item image to English didn't always match. The puzzles I came across while playing the demo were also quite easy. The adventure part of the game, trying to discover items, figuring out where to go next, etc. was a bit frustrating. There is a task list to help you out if you are stuck, but to be honest, I didn't find it or the hints very helpful. I sort of had to wander around looking for hot spots and clicking on them to see what, if anything, I could do.
I'm not saying the game is bad, it's just different. If you like hidden object/adventure games and you don't mind a little frustration, then I say try it. After all, it's only a download away and you will be able to tell in 60 minutes if this game is for you or not.
