League of Legends Review

Lately, I’ve been playing Riot Games’ League of Legends, a free real-time strategy MMO that’s been around for a couple years now. I’d say it qualifies as a casual MMO in that it is simple to learn and play, and the game rounds are short (20 minutes or so), which is one reason I like it. It doesn’t take a huge investment like other MMOs, and if you have a half hour here or there, you can squeeze a game in. The game is inspired by Warcraft III (yes, the game preceding World Of Warcraft).

Your team wins the game by battling down “lanes” to the other side and destroying the other team’s base. Each player chooses a champion for each round. This is nice because you don’t get stuck with one character, race, or class. As you level up and gain more items (like runes and masteries), these transfer across all of your champions. You can select any champion you have unlocked for each round you play. There are a variety of matches to choose from. You can play against other human players or play against computer players in a few different map layouts.
